Sountrack to My Life

I finally have some uninterrupted time to write this. My parents went out of town so it means I don't have anyone reading over my shoulder, asking about the sites I'm visiting. Ahh, good ol' parents.

Anyway, I don't have an IPod so I had to be a bit creative in the whole random selection process. I have close to 200 Cds so let me assure you, the results are very random. Some of the songs selected wouldn't be on my favourites' list so I think I have achieved ultimate randomness in this tag.

Nor do I have the ability to attach links to the songs so y'all will just have to look these up at the library or online or however you crazy kids find songs these days if you really want to hear them.

Here goes.....

Opening Credits - Sonata for Cello and Piano Op. 99 in F Major Johannes Brahms
- 1st movement

Waking Up - Machete Moby

First Day of School- O Fortuna from Carmina Burana Orff
(I guess it's also the first day of the Apocalypse!)

Prom - Marriage of Figaro Finale to Act II Mozart
(A nerd prom, apparently.... very fitting considering my nerdy high school experience)

Life's Okay (thanks to the help of the....) Karma Police Radiohead

Driving - Spider Web No Doubt

Falling in Love - Symphony # 5 Mvt. II Beethoven
(awww)

Breaking Up - Bizarre Love Triangle New Order
(I guess this explains why we're breaking up)

Mental Breakdown- I can't go for that (no can do) Hall and Oates

Reconciliation - Piano Concerto in G Mvt. II Ravel
(I just wish the winds could reconcile their pitch..... my recording is horrible.)

Wedding - You Can Close Your Eyes James Taylor
(and jump off a cliff)

Sex Scene - Tell It Like It Is Aaron Neville
(are you sure you want me to do that?)

Birth of Child - Music for Strings, Percussion and Celeste Mvt. II Bela Bartok
(apparently I give birth to the kid from "The Shining.")

Dance Sequence - In My Place Coldplay
(a slow dance sequence)

Flashback - Heartbeat City The Cars
(What flashback is complete without the Cars?)

Final Battle - Purple Haze (Jimi Hendrix) Kronos Quartet

Death Scene - Possession Sarah McLachlan

Funeral Song - Requiem Mvt. I Gabriel Faure
(Perfect!)

Closing Credits - Sunday Morning Maroon 5

Well, this has been fun. Thanks for the tag, Brian!

Happy Birthday Brother #1 (Charles)!

Reverse Culture Shock

I had the pleasure of taking the Greyhound back from C-town last week. And by pleasure I mean, what planet are these people from? From all accounts, taking the Greyhound in Canada isn't nearly as ghetto or as dangerous as taking it in the US, but from this last experience, I'm starting to have my doubts.

While standing in line, I noticed a decently dressed woman being subjected to the rantings of a lunatic. Once on the bus, this lunatic asked if he could sit next to me.... of course. I quickly put in my earphones but naturally he was unphased by this move and proceeded to ask, "so.... what brings you down to calgary, eh?" Okay, first of all we're on a bus whose destination is only 3 hours away and secondly, calgary isn't exactly a hot destination so most likely no one has an interesting story as to why he or she is there. I responded curtly, very obviously indicating that I was in no mood for chit-chat. From the way he started to squirm, I could tell that he desperately wanted to tell me what brought him "down" to Calgary. I ignored the squirming and continued to watch "Sex and the City." After a few minutes of silence he couldn't bear it anymore and very obviously whipped out his stitched hand crying, "ouch... this really hurts." Sigh, fine, "how did you hurt it?" "Oh, I cut it while doing the dishes the other day." You interrupted my show to tell me THAT war story? Holy crap dude.

After stopping at the halfway point I quickly and stealthily changed seats and secured two for myself. Phew.

Speaking of the halfway point, the first thing I saw upon entering the terminal was a 10 year old, dressed up as "Jason" from one of those 80s horror flicks.... you know, the guy in the ski mask with the chainsaw. My first instinct was to check my watch for the date, thinking that somehow I had lost track of 3 weeks and that it was halloween already. My second instinct was to shoot him my signature "drop dead" look, to which his mother responded by getting mad at his antics. Um, if you don't want your son to harass arriving passengers at the bus depot, perhaps you shouldn't let him dress up as a chainsaw murderer. Call me crazy.

Dollar Is As Dollar Does

I went to my childhood shopping mall to run some errands the other day and I read on the welcoming/advertising sign something like the following: "You asked.... We listened.... Dollarama coming soon." Just what this city needs.... another dollar store. Yeesh. Whenever I see those bags brimming with useless crap in the hands of my fellow bus patrons I can't help but shudder.

I've been a faxing and toll-free calling fool this week. Changing your name and moving overseas is kind of a giant pain in the bum. Once everything is changed over to my new name, I think it will prevent future problems with immigration and children, but I don't think there is an end in sight to toll-free calling. I've got hours and hours of immigration crap in my future.... no need for a crystal ball, this is a guarantee. I'm hoping to be a dual citizen before I'm 40. Not until then will things calm down completely.

I'm off to Calgary today. Apparently I have to drive as Jim has some reading to do. It will be me on the open road with a trusty bass by my side. (We have to put it in the front seat.... it doesn't fit in sedan trunks.) The festival doesn't start until tomorrow but they booked us a hotel for tonight as well and Brianne loves staying at hotels. I'll probably spend the whole night with a glass of wine and cable TV.

Fweezing

Well, I made it back safe and sound and cold in Canada. The journey wasn't too bad. I split it up this time by spending a night in London. A much better way to do it. I had big plans for exploring the city but by the time I got there, I was dog tired, and transportation to and from Piccadilly, Heathrow and my hotel would have been ridiculously expensive. I decided to save my sight-seeing for a time when both J and I can go.

So I puttered around the hotel, had some dinner, watched British TV and called it an early night. I watched a show called "Jeremy Kyle." It seemed like Britain's answer to "Maury Povich," except the guests were slightly less fat. There were some "who is my baby's daddy" and genetic testing bits. Same ol', same ol'.

I also watched Britain's answer to "Airline," called, "Airport."

The next day I woke up early, fearing the worst security and customs lines ever. But of course, I got through both very quickly and ended up sitting past security for 5 hours. I hate feeling panicked that I'm going to miss my flight, so I guess it was better that way.

Since I've been back I've had the pleasure of seeing Johnny and my Hungarian band buddies. It's like I never left. We're going down to C-town for the Hungarian festival this weekend so I need to rest up for a lot of partying and playing.

I spent the whole day yesterday running around to various government offices, and arguing with passport officers. Needless to say I nearly flew into a rage on several occasions. If dealing with the Canadian government is this difficult, I can't wait to start dealing with the Italians. Perhaps I'll give a more detailed account of my day some other time.

I'm staying with my parents right now. Their computer is jacked, so I may not be able to update very often, and pictures are highly unlikely while I'm here. Sorry.
